Sport and Recreation
The Northern Territory Sport and Recreation, as part of the Department of Natural Resources, Environment, the Arts and Sport is responsible for providing opportunities for Territorians to participate in sport and recreation.
Support provided by Sport and Recreation includes management of major sporting events; elite athlete assistance; grants funding for peak sport and recreation groups, local councils and facility building; the development of sport in schools and Aboriginal communities and management of government-owned sporting facilities.
What is happening...
Grass Roots Development Grants- Round 2
Allows organisations (including clubs, groups, service deliverers, shire and municipal councils) to apply for up to $3 000 to implement a new sport or recreation program or increase the capacity of their organisation to deliver sport or recreation services/programs.
Round 2 grants are currently under consideration and the successful recipients will be announced shortly. Round 1 for 2012/13 will be opening in the near future, stay tuned.

Sports Policy One
The Territory Government's Sport Policy One (SP1) was released on 12 June 2011. SP1 will provide the community and sporting organisations with clear direction on how the Territory Government will assist in the delivery of all aspects of sports, from participation to events and facilities to volunteer support.
