The Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) is home to world class facilities which are available to local, national and international athletes and teams.

As Australia's northern most capital city, Darwin provides the ideal preparation ground for athletes and teams preparing to compete internationally, with a warm climate and plenty of sunshine during the southern winter.

Strategic Location

The Territory Government has strategically located the NTIS facilities within the Marrara Sporting Complex. From here we have convenient access to other major sporting facilities including: TIO Stadium (AFL), Marrara Cricket Grounds, Larrakia Park (Soccer), Arafura Stadium (Athletics), Clay Target range, Marrara Indoor Stadium (Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Gymnastics, Judo) and multipurpose sports hall which provide high class indoor and outdoor facilities for a wide variety of sports.

Gymnasium

The NTIS Gymnasium comprises of 255m² of floor space with National Sport Science Quality Assurance (NSSQA) accreditation. It is capable of hosting up to 25 athletes during a session and includes four weight lifting platforms, free weights, exercise bikes, rowing machines and plasma screens for live video feedback.

Sport Science Laboratory

This laboratory is fully equipped with a wide-bodied treadmill, cycle ergometers, NSSQA accredited metabolic cart, core and skin temperature monitors, regional sweat rate and skin blood flow analysers, and high speed cameras.  An extensive range of scientific analysis and research can be undertaken within this laboratory.

Climate Control Chamber

The Climate Control Chamber is capable of simulating a wide range of environmental conditions by manipulation of ambient temperature (15-40ºC), relative humidity (30-80%) and solar radiation (up to 800W.m²). The 21.6m² chamber forms part of the National Heat Training and Acclimatisation Centre.

Recovery Centre

The Recovery Centre comprises of a 1250L, six to eight person spa interfaced with a 23kW chiller and 1.5kW heater capable of producing water temperatures of 5-38ºC for sustained immersion and recovery.

Sports Medicine Clinic

The sports medicine clinic houses facilities for athletes who receive treatment from the NTIS Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Coordinator.

Conference Room

This 30 seat room is equipped with conference call capability, data projector and electronic whiteboard with photocopy function.

Athletics Track

An international standard synthetic athletics track is located on site complemented by long jump, steeplechase, javelin and a netted hammer throw area. Inside the athletics track is a grassed field suitable for field based sports. This is also supported by two team change rooms and an officials’ room.
