Chris Brock - Scientist
Qualifications
Chris joined the NT Government in 1996 as a graduate and spent 1 year as a Park ranger at Ormiston Gorge, introducing him to park management issues. Chris worked out of Wildlife research in Darwin for 5 years where he provided botanical and zoological expertise for various bioregional surveys, fire plot inventories and grazing impacts research projects.
During this time he also completed his honours degree on the biogeography of bluebush swamps in the Barkly Tableland.
In 2001 he took up a position in Alice Springs mapping and surveying vegetation on parks and serving in an advisory role for park managers on issues related to natural resource management.
Research
Currently Chris is working on ways to incorporate biological values into resource management planning, including management of fire and its effects on vegetation. His surveys have lead to detailed knowledge of the floristic diversity of parks and the development of information systems that enable effective transfer of knowledge to resource managers.
Chris also has an interest in the application of prescribed fire on parks, plant species response to fire and indicators of fire sensitive vegetation.
