Dr Anne Walters – Senior Scientist
Qualifications
Anne commenced her early career as an aquatic scientist, studying Aquaculture at Flinders University in South Australia. However, during this time, Anne found that her interests lay in environmental research, and she subsequently undertook her Honours and Doctorate research in Conservation Biology, which she completed through Flinders University in 2004.
Following her studies, Anne was employed as a Midge Biologist at SA Water, where she explored potential solutions to an outbreak of pest midge populations associated with the wastewater plant. Subsequently, Anne worked at the Australian Water Quality Centre as an aquatic biologist, where she was involved in assessing the impacts of a range of disturbances on the quality of water and the aquatic biodiversity of local waterways. In 2005, Anne joined the SA Government to investigate the ecology of spring-fed permanent pools in the mid-North of South Australia, where drought conditions were having significant impacts on biodiversity.
Anne joined the Biodiversity Conservation Division of the Northern Territory Government in 2006.
Research
Anne’s research interests include the impacts of invasive species on the natural environment, the effective and strategic management of invasive species, the effective management of pest native species, threatened species monitoring and management, sustainable development, and the development of research programs to assist in making informed wildlife management decisions.
