Reporting an Incident
What to report
If you see a marine animal, such as a turtle, dolphin, dugong, crocodile, saw fish, shark or ray, in need of help report it.
You can report: 
- stranded or entangled marine wildlife
- wildlife by-catch
- discarded fishing nets or ‘ghost nets’
- boating incidents involving a marine animal
- unlawful or suspicious injury/death of a marine animal
- marine wildlife at risk
How to report
Hotline
Call the Marine WildWatch hotline - 1800 453 941.
The more details you provide to us – location or GPS coordinates, what animal it is (if known), type of incident - the better chance the Northern Territory Government has of protecting our marine environment.
The hotline will be manned during business hours, with a message facility and emergency contact number for other times.
Online Incident Form
Complete the online form, providing as much detail as possible, and submit the form electronically.
Collecting the information
By reporting what you see you, you can help us monitor and manage wildlife incidents so we can better understand and protect our marine wildlife.
The Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport will be responsible for initially processing the incident report by entering data into a Marine Wildlife Incident Database. They will then contact the relevant party for each report. The nominated lead Government agency will ensure correct procedures are followed and liaise with others in the contact group where necessary for each marine wildlife report.
These guidelines may be reviewed after two years to ensure their relevance and efficiency, and the incident reporting process will be updated as needed and agreed.
