Water Control Districts
Water Control Districts (WCD) can be proclaimed in areas where there is a need for close management of water resources. This is to avoid stressing groundwater reserves, river flows or wetlands. Legislation in Water Control Districts covers all aspects of sustainable water resource management including the investigation, use, control, protection and allocation. For example, a Bore Construction Permit must be obtained by the landholder before a bore can be drilled in a Water Control District.
Water Control Districts are in the Darwin Rural Area, Gove Peninsula, Daly Roper, Tennant Creek, Ti Tree and Alice Springs regions. The following maps show the boundaries of each Water Control District.
