Commercial Filming / Photography Permit
Under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation By-laws a permit is required to carry out trade or commerce in a park or reserve. This includes commercial filming and photography activities undertaken for a financial purpose, or to promote a product or business.

Many parks and reserves in the Northern Territory are under joint management involving Aboriginal Traditional Owners. Permit applications for these parks may be subject to special approval processes that can take more time.
Standard permit conditions and special park specific conditions are stated in the Commercial Filming and Photography Permit Conditions below.
A basic, non-refundable application / administration fee of $55 will apply upon application for a permit. Other fees may apply in addition (see policy and guidelines).
Processing times for permit applications is as follows:
- For standard shoots: Up to 7 days for issue of permit – notice of refusal.
- For non-standard shoots (not jointly managed parks): Up to 14 days for issue of permit – or notice of refusal.
- For non-standard shoots on jointly managed parks: Up to 35 days for issue of permit – or notice of refusal.
Please note filming and photography for news and current affairs purposes do not require a permit but news outlets are required to contact the Department’s Media Liaison Officer on 0437 915 366 to ensure the ranger/s on duty are aware of the request.
