Food Drops & Storage Facilities
Food storage facilities are available at various points along the Larapinta Trail and are used by the majority of walkers who undertake the entire 223km.
Food drops can be made independently by borrowing a key from the Tourism Central Australia Visitor Centre (see below for details) or by arrangement with one of the commercial operators offering food drop services. Walkers planning food drops through commercial operators should contact the company direct for more information.
Food storage facilities are available at:

Ellery Creek (Food storage room located within the toilet block)

Serpentine Gorge (Old storage shed at the Larapinta Trail campsite)
- Ormiston Gorge (Food storage room located at the Visitor Centre)
Each of these three locations is marked with a Larapinta Trail logo.
Please ensure that food drops are well concealed if placed in areas other than the secure food storage facilities, and secured in animal and ant proof containers.

Food drops can also be made at Standley Chasm and Glen Helen Resort by prior arrangement. Standley Chasm and Glen Helen Resort are privately owned and operated so walkers should contact them direct for more details.
A convenient way to organise food drops is to drop them off on the way to the most westerly point you intend to walk from. That way you will know exactly where they are located and can do them all in one trip.
Borrowing a Key
All of the Parks and Wildlife food storage facilities are locked to minimise theft. Keys are available from the Tourism Central Australia Visitor Centre on Gregory Terrace. A key deposit of $50 is required and will be fully refunded upon return.
Keys can also be obtained through commercial operators who offer transfer services.
