Function and Composition

The Local Management Committee for the Howard Springs Nature Park is a new advisory group that will be established by the Minister for Parks and Wildlife.

The aim of the Local Management Committee is to facilitate more direct and ongoing input by the local community in regards to the management of the Park.

The Committee will be responsible for providing advice to the Parks and Wildlife Service on management issues including:

The Local Management Committee will consist of 6 members, of which two will represent the Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport and the Larrakia Nation.

The remaining 4 members will be people from the local community - of which two will represent a community organisation and / or tourism operators.

It is proposed that the maximum term of office for both general community representatives and community group representatives will be two years.

There will be a minimum of two meetings per year.
