The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens has a range of sites for all wedding functions, small, medium and large.

Opening Hours
The Gardens gates to Geranium Street and Gardens Road entries are open at 7am and close at 7pm daily unless communicated to the Events and Projects Co-ordinator or the Curator of the Gardens. We can have the gates locked later when the function has finished. A time will have to be provided to the Events and Projects Co-ordinator.
Bookings
Bookings for wedding ceremonies and receptions are managed by the Events and Project Co-ordinator, located at the Holtze house (Bottom area of the double story house), closest to the Geranium Street carpark.
Contact the Events and Projects Co-ordinator to see if the site is available for the required date and time. Telephone enquiries or bookings can be made by telephoning (08)89410 905, during office hours, Monday – Friday, 10am - 5:30pm or email botgardens.darwin@nt.gov.au.

The permit form needs to be filled out to start confirming your booking. The Permit and other forms can be accessed from the Forms Required section below or from the Events and Projects Co-ordinator.
Contact the Events and Projects Co-ordinator once the forms have been completed to confirm any special requirements for the function and to organise a time for payment.

Cancellations
If you have booked a site for a function and you want to cancel, please contact the Events and Projects co-ordinator on (08)89410 905 to arrange this as soon as possible. Site fees are only refundable at the discretion of the Curator.

Payments
A site fee is required to secure your booking. All other payments are required one month before the function.
This can be done through credit card, eft, cheque, money order or cash. If paying by cheque please make out to:
NRETAS -George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens.
Payments can be organised through the Events and Projects Co-ordinator.
Reimbursements for Functions
Reimbursements are up to the discretion of the Curator. Bond money maybe held by the Curator for the following reasons:
- Area left with rubbish and untidy.
- Property or area damaged by function.
- Area not cleaned up by an appropriate time that is organised through function application.
Reimbursement for the bond and key does not get processed until the key has been returned to the Events and Projects Co-ordinator. Reimbursement can take up to 10 -14 working days (not including public holidays).
Keys
Keys can be obtained for: the Wesleyan Church, Fountain chain, and Orientation Centre through theEvents and Projects Co-ordinator, located in the Holtze house (Bottom area of the double story house), closest to the Geranium Street carpark of the Gardens. Contact 89410 905 if you cannot locate the office.
- Hirers of the site must organise a delegated person or company to clean up after their function to receive reimbursement of their bond money.
- Confetti and tall fire lamps are not to be used in the Gardens.
- Rice, bubbles and flower petals (not a large amount) are permissible.
- If wanting to use marquees or wanting to place anything in the ground please consult with the Events and projects Co-ordinator to ensure irrigation systems and pipes are not damaged.
- Please don’t empty eskies on the grass area as this burns the grass.
- Please fill in Application Questionnaire and send back with permit forms to the Functions and Project Officer.
- Fireworks are not to be used in the Gardens.
- Dance floors must be discussed as to where they can be placed with the Events and Projects Co-ordinator. Dance floors are to be set up last and preferrably after 4pm. Please advise Events and projects Co-ordinator if you are having a dance floor for your function. Please advise decorators also about this condition of Site Use.
- Function noise in the Gardens - Please be aware that there are residents that live around the Gardens and we trust that visitors respect to keep noise level to a low.
Parking
There are two parking areas for guests and visitors at the Botanic Gardens:
- Geranium Street entrance - off of the Stuart Highway.
- Gardens Road entrance - off of Gilruth Avenue.
- There is over flow parking areas at Mindil Beach carpark near the Gilruth Avenue traffic lights.
Alcohol in the Gardens
If selling alcohol at your function a temporary Liquor License must be obtained from the Liquor Commission. A consumption of alcohol form is required if alcohol is provided for your function please complete form and submit to Events and Projects Co-ordinator with permit forms.
Function Areas Availability for the Month of August and December
- During the month of August the Darwin Festival is on and therefore our function areas are limited to the Shade Garden and the Holtze lawn through out this month. Please be aware that functions through the amphitheatre could affect function planning. Please discuss with the Events and Projects Co-ordinator for more information.
- During December, the Christmas Carols are held in the amphitheatre and we don’t except any bookings for the Gardens except for the Holtze lawn on this date. It is usually the 1st Sunday of December. Please discuss with the Events and Projects Co-ordinator for more information.

Fountain times cannot be changed. We recommend that ceremonies are booked during the off period of the fountain times due to the noise of the fountain.
