Northern Territory Library Services

Northern Territory Library serves the people of the Northern Territory and provides a wide range of services and support to all sections of the community.

Northern Territory Library is the premier public library in the Northern Territory and as such fulfils a leadership role for all other libraries in the Territory in areas such as professional development, co-operative purchasing agreements and co-operative lending agreements.

The Northern Territory Library’s comprehensive range of services and programs include:

  • Highly qualified Research and Reference Service.
  • Internationally recognised ‘access to knowledge’ with NTL’s Libraries & Knowledge Centre program.
  • A range of Public Programs that engage the public and contribute to enhanced understanding of many diverse fields.
  • ‘Early Literacy’ programs.
  • IT systems infrastructure support and training for the whole NT Library network.
  • Territory wide coordination of services and training that support the network of Public Libraries including remote Libraries and Knowledge Centres.
  • Facilitate free public access to innovative digital technologies, including confederated search technologies and resources, and a network of online information.
  • Access to specialised research services including family and Indigenous history resources.
  • Maintenance of Integrated Library Management Services (ILMS) to manage library operations and maintain a single quality controlled database for a network across the Territory, including public, school, government and TAFE libraries.
  • Direct provision of services at Taminmin and Nhulunbuy Community Libraries.
  • Specialised library services to Parliament.
