Getting started in Family History

The Northern Territory library has access to a wealth of information for the family historian. Much of this is available through the internet.  Many of these services are available as online subscriptions or on CD Rom, accessible only in the library.

Below is a beginners list to online resources, and a guide to further resources available in the library. The list focuses on Births, Deaths and Marriages indexes as well as divorces, probate records and cemeteries.

We will be developing further guides on immigration and shipping, convicts, military service records, directories over the next few months.

Church records for pre 1858 baptisms, marriages and burials are held in the Archives Resources Kit, on microfilm, located in the family history area. A guide to converting BDM Volume numbers into  ARK Reel numbers is located at NSW Archives Office.
