NT Legal Aid is an independent statutory Commission and provides access to the law and legal assistance to people who are unable to afford the services of a private lawyer.Their website includes a useful contacts page.
Community Justice Centre
The Northern Territory Government, Community Justice Centre provides free mediation services to the community to help people resolve their own disputes without legal action.
Darwin Community Legal Service
Volunteer lawyers provide a range of legal and advocacy services including legal advice; disability, discrimination and aged care advocacy; welfare rights; human rights and public interest law. They have free initial legal advice sessions at Palmerston, Casuarina, Batchelor and Katherine.

North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA)
The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency is a newly formed organisation that intends to be a one-stop shop for justice for Indigenous people in the Top End. It was created by bringing together The North Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service (NAALAS), the Miwatj Aboriginal Legal Service and the Katherine Region Aboriginal Legal Aid to provide legal aid and justice initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the top end. It covers the Darwin, Nhulunbuy, Jabiru and Katherine regions.

CAALAS is a legal aid service for Aboriginal people in the Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Apatula regions. They provide assistance with family, civil and criminal law.

The Law Society Northern Territory can provide names and contact details of lawyers, and can help if you have a problem with your lawyer. They have pamphlets on the legal process and explanations of client/lawyer cost agreements.
National Pro Bono Resource Centre
The National Pro Bono Resource Centre is an Australian independent, non profit organisation that encourages pro bono legal services, supports lawyers and law firms to make it easier for them to provide high quality pro bono legal services and works with the profession and the community sector to match services with the clients and groups most in need of assistance. Domestic Violence Legal Service, Darwin
The Domestic Violence Legal Service operates out of the Darwin Magistrates Court with Ms Sue Phoo as Principal. All clients who wish assistance to apply for a Domestic Violence Order must be referred to the DVLS. Those clients unable to obtain assistance from DVLS will be referred to the private profession for assistance on the conflict referral letter.

Atunypa Wiru Minyma Uwankaraku NPY Women's Council Domestic Violence Service
Advocacy service offered by Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council for Aboriginal Women and Children living in the Cross-Border region of WA, SA and NT. Communities assisted in the NT are: Docker River, Mutitjulu, Imanpa and Finke. They can assist clients with obtaining restraining orders, making statutory declarations and help with reporting family violence to legal authorities and referrals.
