Award Winner and finalists 2011
The Winner of the 2011 Chief Minister's Northern Territory History Book Awards is:
Dr Mickey Dewar for Darwin – No Place Like Home

The Chief Minister’s NT History Book Award was presented at the awards ceremony held at Parliament House on Thursday 12 May 2011, with local historian Dr Mickey Dewar winning for her work Darwin – No Place Like Home.
“The book gives an overview of life in Darwin in the 1950s, using evidence from oral histories and original archival records impressing the judges with its depth of research,” said Ms Jo McGill, Northern Territory Library Director.
2011 Chief Minister's Northern Territory History Book Awards Finalists
Only a small number of entries were received this year, but they were all of a particularly high standard. Three books were shortlisted:
- Darwin – No Place Like Home: Australia's Northern Capital in the 1950s through a Social History of Housing,
by Mickey Dewar and published by the Historical Society of the Northern Territory.
- Northern Voyagers: Australia’s Monsoon Coast in Maritime History,
by Alan Powell, and published by Australian Scholarly Publishing, and
- Contact Zones: Sport and Race in the Northern Territory, 1869-1953,
by Matthew Stephen and published by Charles Darwin University Press.
The Chief Minister's NT History Book Award is presented annually to the author of a published book which relates to Northern Territory history.
The Northern Territory Library are the custodians of the documentary history of the Northern Territory, and aim to promote excellence in scholarship and research.
