Winnellie
The Northern Territory Library provides a range of services from its offices in Winnellie. We are open from 8.00am - 4.30pm on weekdays and are located on the corner of Witte and Albatross street, Winnellie. Our services include:
Resource Management
The Resource Management Unit is responsible for ordering, buying, cataloguing and end processing of library materials selected by library staff in public libraries throughout the Territory. The Unit also performs this service for the Northern Territory Library situated in Parliament House.
The Unit also maintains the integrity of the catalogue and advice is given to library staff throughout the Territory on issues relating to selection, ordering, cataloguing and end processing of any library resources they may purchase.
The Unit administers a collection of large print, spoken word and foreign language material. These selections of these materials are loaned to libraries, returned to the Unit after a while and then can be loaned to other libraries.
The Unit also handles serials acquisitions for most libraries in the Territory.

Virtua Database
The Virtua Integrated Library Management System is the business application operated by over 50 libraries in the Northern Territory. It controls Customer and Vendor accounts, stock rotation and also delivers an Online Public Access Catalogue.
The Virtua database is an extremely valuable resource, providing Territorians with access to over a million items. It also supports the delivery of Online resources which can be used within the library or remotely by becoming a member of a library.
The system is managed by the Northern Territory Government and is used by LINNet (Libraries in the Northern Territory Network). LINNet members include Public and Community libraries, Secondary School and College libraries, various Government libraries and the Northern Territory Library.

Libraries and Knowledge Centres (LKC's)
The LKC unit provides support and training to public libraries, community libraries and school libraries across the Territory. In addition, the LKC Unit is directly responsible for providing library services at two joint-use (school and community) libraries at Taminmin and Nhulunbuy.
The LKC Team is currently implementing a new model for library services in Indigenous communities. The LKC model is built on the services that NTL already provides through community libraries. It is presented as a series of building blocks comprised of traditional library concepts plus Indigenous knowledge concepts. For more information, see the LKC webpage.

Public Library Services
Public library services in Darwin, Palmerston, Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Jabiru are provided by local councils with funding and support from the Northern Territory Government. Services to these larger municipal libraries, and the Taminmin and Nhulunbuy Community Libraries are coordinated by LKC staff. Professional development opportunities, site visits and support to library staff, as well as the coordination of the twice-yearly PLNT (Public Libraries Network NT) meeting is organised through the Winnellie office. Centralised support for marketing and promotional events and special projects is also provided.
For further information contact Public Library Services.
Community Library Services
There are 22 community libraries, most of which are located in Indigenous communities across the Top End, with several in the southern region of the Territory. These libraries are staffed by Community Library Officers (CLOs) and are usually open from between 10-30 hours per week. NTL provides an annual grant to Community Government Councils to cover library operating costs and salaries. A separate annual amount is also allocated for the purchase of library resources.
Ongoing training and support is provided to CLOs by the LKC Team. This involves site visits and regular telephone and email contact. A CLO website offers further support through procedures and manuals, tips for running programs and activities, recommended web pages, lists of Indigenous resources etc.
