The mission of Northern Territory Library is to develop communities through the delivery of appropriate library services for all Territorians, by:

- Preserving NT documentary and cultural heritage.
- Helping people learn.
- Preserving and providing access to the Northern Territory’s documentary and cultural heritage.
- Delivering Library services to the public, in partnership with Department of Education and Training (DET), Communities and Local Governments.
- Providing leadership in the delivery of library services in the Northern Territory.
- Providing services that enable access by Territorians to recorded global knowledge.
- Providing library services to Parliament.
