Weird and Amazing Fishes of the NT!

Marvel at bizarre, suction-cap-like oral disks, saw like rostrums, flamboyant barbels and
poisonous spines. Discover fish that lack eyes and scales; carry eggs on their head; or
have bright and unusual colours.

Runkani runkani Going round and round: multisensory experiences of Tjanpi Desert Weavers

Tjanpi Desert Weavers from Warakurna participated in research investigating the multisensory experiences involved in making grass sculptures and baskets. Dr Christiane Keller will introduce the research, its methods and outcomes through a photographic journey. The film Tjanpi Nyawa! Look at the Grass!, resulting from Dr Keller’s research, will be screened publicly for the first time.

Monsoon traders lost on the Northern Australian coast – historical evidence for their existence

From c.1780–1907, monsoon traders from the eastern part of Indonesia sailed to Australia’s northern coast collecting trepang. Despite historical evidence that some vessels were wrecked and lost on the northern Australian coast, no tangible archaeological evidence of their existence has been found.
