Project Overview
The Katherine Regional Cultural Precinct Master Plan will reflect the vision of the people of the Katherine region to have a contemporary meeting place.
It will be a modern structure that will be a place to celebrate, learn, create and share; a place that will work to reconcile the future with the past, and will provide visitors with a unique cultural experience.
Through increased public connectivity and accessibility, and linking with other major national and state art and cultural institutions the Precinct aims to evolve into an exceptional public amenity for the community and the burgeoning tourism in the region.

Godinymayin – The Site
Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre is being built on the old weighbridge site on the the Stuart Highway near the intersection of Maluka Road. Selection of the site followed a lengthy community negotiation process and consultancy. Consultation took into account flood impact advice provided by the Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport (NRETAS) and as part of the Master-planning and design the impact on the floodplain was assessed. A subdivision application has been lodged.
The use of the site is subject to an Indigenous Land Use Agreement that has been negotiated with the Northern land Council (NLC) on behalf of the Traditional Owners.
The following plan shows a detailed view of the Centre facilities. More details on the activity areas as envisioned is provided below.
