Katherine Regional Cultural Precinct

Katherine Regional Cultural Precinct

The Katherine community is dedicated and committed to achieving a community facility for the region, and has played a major role in driving the development of a cultural precinct since 2001.

The development of the precinct is a staged project with Stage 1 nearing completion through a $4 million commitment by the Territory Government. Katherine Town Council has also secured $3 million under the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Infrastructure Strategic Projects program as a contribution to building of the precinct and has contributed $220,000 to the project.

In February 2010, the Territory Government announced Woodhead Pty Ltd as the successful tenderer for the Master Plan and Concept Design of the Katherine Regional Cultural Precinct.

The precinct will reflect the Katherine region and its cultures through its design and the commissioning of public art. This will draw on the natural environment, history, storytelling and the artists of the region.

Katherine Regional Cultural Precinct Ltd. was established in May 2011 as the legal entity to develop and professionally manage the Precinct, now known as Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre.

The subpages provide an overview of the design and development of this staged project.
